When asked how many days there are in a year, we can all answer without hesitation, but when it comes to hours, we will normally go to Google because it is not something that people generally talk about. Have you ever encountered someone who says things like, “I’ll see you in 168 hours,” or something similar? Probably not, because a normal person would say they’ll see you in a week or seven days.
There’s also a reason we know a day has 24 hours, but we can’t keep doing math every time we talk about days because, let’s face it, it’s exhausting!
So how many hours are there in a year?
There are 8760 hours in a year.
There are 8784 hours in a leap year.
Every non-leap year has 365 days, with 24 hours in each day. 365×24=8760. There are 366 days in every fourth year. 366×24=8784. Because a year isn’t exactly 365 days, we have a leap year every four years. So we may be more precise and state that the typical year is 365.25 days or 8766 hours.
